Built to remove the manual bottleneck
ClozeMD is a desktop Anki companion for medical students who want to stop spending their evenings manually turning lecture notes into flashcards.
What ClozeMD is
ClozeMD takes your notes, turns them into cloze-style flashcards, and sends the finished cards into Anki desktop. It is designed to make Anki setup and card creation much faster, especially for medical students dealing with high volumes of material.
The name comes from cloze deletions—the filling-in-the-blank format that is the standard for medical Anki decks. We built this to automate that specific, tedious formatting process so you can focus on studying.
How the workflow works
1. Paste your notes: Drop your lecture notes or study material into the app.
2. Generate cards: ClozeMD uses built-in AI to transform your notes into high-yield cards.
3. Sync to Anki: Cards are sent directly into your local Anki desktop app via AnkiConnect. No CSV exports required.
Privacy and Data Handling
When you generate cards, your notes are sent to ClozeMD's server-side generation service and then Gemini. We do not intentionally retain study content in routine logs or analytics.
ClozeMD does not proxy your Anki sync. Cards are sent directly from your computer to your local Anki desktop app through AnkiConnect. See the Privacy Policy for the service metadata we retain.
Built independently
ClozeMD is an independent project built in Western Australia to solve the manual friction of medical study.
What's Coming
ClozeMD is focused on getting desktop right first. After that, here is what is planned:
- Mobile companion — Generate flashcards on the go from your phone, then sync to your desktop Anki
- Customisable tags —Full control over how cards are tagged, with AI-assisted suggestions
- Mobile app releases — Available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store
